The emulation community has achieved a crowning achievement in game preservation. The developers of RPCS3—the open-source Sony PlayStation 3 emulator—have officially updated their compatibility database to reflect that 75.33% of all tested PS3 games are now classified as “Playable.”
In RPCS3 terminology, “Playable” means a game can be registered, booted, and played from the opening title sequence to the end credits with stable performance and no game-breaking graphical or logical glitches. For a console notoriously built around the incredibly complex, multi-core Cell Broadband Engine architecture, reaching three-quarters compatibility is an incredible engineering feat that ensures thousands of games won’t be lost to hardware decay.
