When Nintendo eventually launches its next-generation hybrid console, early adopters are widely expected to get a highly capable, custom Nvidia-powered system—but one saddled with an LCD screen to keep manufacturing costs down.
However, supply chain leaks out of South Korea indicate Nintendo is already planning ahead. The company is in active negotiations with Samsung Display to secure a massive supply of high-yield 1080p OLED panels destined for a “Switch 2 OLED” revision down the road. While the internal system-on-chip processing power will remain identical, the leap from a launch-model LCD to a vibrant, high-contrast FHD OLED panel is a proven strategy Nintendo used to successfully re-energize original Switch sales years into its life cycle.
